Where have I been? Has the law of averages finally overtaken me? What happened to the rest of the photos?
I did promise something musical, of course if I’d recognised this would be Halloween I might have promised something spooky… sadly I have something rather more mundane to offer…
Seven months I‘ve been on furlough, and yes I should have started this page back in April, but lets not go there.
Seven months during which we looked very “casually” for a bigger house, while doing this one up. Seven months of sporadic and unsuccesful viewings and scanning floor plans. Seven months during which the housing market seems to have gone mad.
The lovely Chris gets a text alert from “Zoo-move”#, but she’s at work, so she forwards to me, I phone up for a viewing – this is maybe 2-3 hours after the house has been listed – only to be told it is ALREADY sold! Or, even if it’s still available, I ask for a viewing maybe in two days and I can hear the disbelief and amusment from the other end of the phone, at the very idea that anything will still be on the market in two whole days time!
I have no idea why the housing sector should go crazy during a Pandemic, and anyway what has this to do with a week of absence from these pages? I suspect some of you can see where this might be going….
Yes, about a week ago we went to see yet another property and it turned out that THIS COULD BE THE ONE. Obviously based on the above experiences (and several other anecdotes of quick sales) we could not move fast enough, but frankly we had become complacent about the idea that we might be moving or selling, so nothing was ready.
I’d like to conjure you an image of me sitting with lap top and desk computer and phone and reams of old envelopes which might contain insurance details, or bank statements or… I’ve got Home reports, convayencing solicitors, house photographers, mortgage porting, commuting costs, those repairs I never thought I’d really need to do, and now….. after Seven months, I am returning to work.
There’s a reason I called it”Dog’s life.”.
Next week … probably something more about the joys of buying and selling houses.
#If I ever set up a removal company or estate agent – I’m going to call it “Zoo-move”
