Some of you will be aware that I had a minor stroke two years ago. I have been very fortunate in my full recovery and return to my normal(?) life.
At the time, I received, not only huge help from friends and family, but really first class care from the medical services, and a very comprehensive follow up from the support organisations. It has always been my intention to try to “give something back”, but life being what it is, first there was my own recovery, then return to work, and then covid, then moving house…
However excuses (or more kindly – distractions) are cheap and plentiful, but they do not, as my late father would have said, “get a new frock for the baby”.
I was galvanised into a more pro-active stance after catching a snippet on TV of a stroke victim – not yet fully recovered – abseiling off the Forth Bridge to raise money for a stroke charity. Now in my own defence, many charity fundraising events have been delayed or cancelled by lockdown, but not all, and lockdown has only increased their need for help and support.
I don’t run, I don’t swim, I did previously abseil off the Glasgow University tower (come with me some time and I can still show you where I chipped it with my helmet on the way down). I really wanted to find some kind of event that had a “resonance” for me.
October the 9th – WALK THE FLAMES fundraiser for the charity CHEST HEART and STROKE.
I am already registered. There will certainly be more to come on this topic – the training- the first aid – the blatant appeals for sponsorship.
Serveral friends have sent me encouraging(?) messages and images;

I am advised that there is also a very amusing(?) Youtube section on “Fire walking gone wrong”… (hold my beer…).
I have already created my “just giving” page, however, I’m going to hold off sharing that just now, in favour of a more immediate event;
THE VIRTUAL KILTWALK April 23rd-25th, where my good friend, Andy, known to many of you as rock god, and front man from Tergazzi, is raising money for an equally good cause.
