I prepared for an outdoor rehersal by ressurecting a Dalmallyfest tarpaulin – all safely stored away against, who knows what need… Anyway, they have a very long “best before date”.
With the help of the “Really tall steps” I was able to fit some hooks in the back wall, and delving further into my bag of “old Dfest stuff” a selection of serious bungies (those are ones you would rather did not snap back and hit you) allowed me to provide a “sheltered area”. Not waterproof, I would not make that claim, but a space where we could at least put the drums, amps and various electickery if there was a shower (musicians themselves are generally waterproof and replaceable).
Having thus prepared against reasonable contigencey, it was in fact so hot and sunny, that we were obliged to erect a gazebo, to provide shade! Thus conclusively proving we were in Scotland in April.
Due a slight booking conflict (“what do you mean you son’s band has the PA?”) we were also reunited with another antique friend – our PAL “public announcement system” which was old when the Tone Pigs acquired at the start of time (Dalmallytime).
None the less, 4 musicians met, caught up, played, complained, jammed and generally had a very good afternoon. Also usefully demonstrating that I could, feasibly, host a larger event in my back garden (lockdown and weather permitting).
It’s not often I report a success!
Next week on IaDL – 6 months to the Firewalk, how should I be training?
