What no New Year Special?
I had some plans for a midnight Hogmany video appearance (with song), but the party was cancelled as everyone had to isolate, and, in fit of pique, I went to bed at half ten…zzzzzz
However a belated Happy New Year to all, and I’d like to start it with a pretty typical luckydog incident.
I started with a receipe delivery service (you know, they send ingrediants and instructions to your door weekly). Of course initially it was a special offer , heavilly discounted, but we kept it up for a number of reasons, even though it is now relatively pricey for what you get.
1/ Mental overhead – that’s two days a week we don’t have to spend asking “what can we make tonight”
2/ Involvement – both sons have shown themselves rather more willing to cook dinner when presented with a carefully packaged and pre-measured receipe with “foolproof” instructions.
3/ Variety – despite living with one of the pickiest eaters on the planet (NOT CHRIS), generally everything gets eaten without complaint. True some few go on the “not again” list , but by and by , the “green bits” are not picked out, and thus far we find a couple of different selections each week.
So far so good. Unfortunately the company – lets call them “Home Feeding” do not do their own deliveries, but entrust them to “Oodle” the parcel people.
Obviously the chilled food parcels cannot be left lying around for any appreciable time, so prompt delivery is a must.
I was therefore disturbed to get an email from Oodle last night saying that my package had arrived at the local depot (6pm 3rd) but would not be delivered till 5th.
I checked again before dawn (5th) and again at dinner time (5th). Of course you cant talk to Oodle, but you can “chat” with HF.
LDW- “My food has being lying in a depot since yesterday and isn’t coming till tomorrow (ordered for today), I’m not happy about this!”
HF agent – We’re really sorry, there was a problem at our headquaters and that delayed all the packages going out.”
LDW ” Here’s a copy of the email from Oddle stating they have it here in Kilmanock 24 hours ago”
HFagent – We’ll get a brand new package out to you tomorrow as a replecement
LDW -” So this new package…what will be the identifier on it, as opposed to the codes on the “existing package” Oodles say is coming tomorrow ?
HF agent – long pause (starts writing) stops (starts writing) stops. Our account deprtment will be in touch regarding a refund fo your inconvenience
LDW – “Hmmmmmmm. And could you clarify the “delayed at HQ statement” when your carrier actually got the package..?”
“CHAT ENDS”
I was not best pleased. They started with a lie, and worse, a stupid lie.
I sigh and go off to make some assorted alternative dinner arrangements.
About half an hour later the door bell goes.
Yes, it’s Oodle delivering for Home Feeding (today on the 4th).
Next week on IaDL – this fish is off!
