It’s a Dogs Life 60

I tell an unfunny story at my own expense and of course, that’s the one that gets the most views, likes and shares. I suppose I shouldn’t be surprised.

The funniest thing I’ve ever written…. at least that’s what I promised last week, not that I (or I believe, anyone else) expects “next week on IaDL ” to actually relate to what appears.

I’d did once read some jobseeker advice which suggested that any application should include the line ” ….only when I’m wearing lipstick, said the snake”, on the principle that someone would eventually invite you in, if only to find out how the snake joke begins.

I’ve tried this, but you do need to also have a good beginning to the joke…

On reflection I have no idea what the funniest thing I have ever wriiten might be, some of the songs have got at laugh, sometimes even the humorous ones. I did once have an audience laughing at my serious 40th birthday reflection on shared years (Only the Gin was Slow) – which was great, if a little puzzling.

On a different note, after years of trying to amuse with “Obsessive Compulsive Baby” and failing, it went over to gales of laughter in a more reserved (nae “straight”) performance, a couple of years back.

My sister in law apparently had to dab her eyes dry several times while reading “Lasagne” (elsewhere on these pages), although I always saw it as more of a tragedy.

A very long time ago indeed, I sat in the beer garden of the Salmon Leap in Drymen with Sharon, Colin and Shiela, and we exchanged accident stories. To that point I had never really catalogued all my mishaps, and indeed, I assumed that everyone, (or nearly everyone ) had similar stories.

They all did have some tales to tell, but I had them falling off their seats with my matter-of -fact account, after acount, after account. I can still hear them saying “you should write those down….”, and indeed I did.

I’ve said since that, that’s where Lucky -dog was born (or at least Christened) as I’d never previously thought of a separate “stage persona” until I penned the song.

So, I ‘m going with “Ballad of Lucky Dog” as the funniest. Maybe not the most hilarious lyrics, but as a memory of a day when so much other fun began.

Next Week on IaDL ; for Sharon – Delaney had a Donkey…
