It’s a Dog’s Life 71

I thought I’d wait till after this weeks hospital check up to find out what bad news I had to share… turns out , “it depends, wait and see, time will tell”.

In principle no news is of course good news, however no news is also a further enforced spell off work (work, I remember that vaguely), and similarly an enforced spell of no heavy lifting/straining/acrobatics etc which reguar followers will likely recognise as being a substantial crimp in my day to day life.

It’s also no driving, which is not your friend if you live in Kilmarnock and shift work in Glasgow.

Driving with one eye, is not, in fact, illegal – “it depends” the law says. Mostly it appears to depend on how much money you can give your insurance company and whether you are defending in court.

Frankly I wouldn’t dare at this point . R eye gives “true feed”. L eye gives simultaneous split screen (gas bubble). Above: mostly normal but crooked, say 20 degrees off, while Below: Slightly magnified, but refracted (ie not exactly what I am looking at). If I am moving at all the seemingly reflective line between these is sloshing all over the place.

If I have both eyes open I get all this superimposed. “No officer, I was distracted by the movement inside my own eye…”

As the gas bubble disappates (in it’s own sweet time) some of this will resolve, and they can determine what degree of recovery I might get (sadly the 20 degree crook, does not particularly bode well), however before that, it’s really guesswork.

Meantime, they took some liquid out my eye – with a syringe- and I now have a contact lens bandage to cover the resuling hole while it heals, much in the manner of a bicycle tyre repair.

Just call me …Patch.

Next week on IaDL – visitor from another planet (well Canada)
