It’s a Walking One Eye’d Dog’s Life 77

So can I drive or not?” NOT.

There are 2 tests to drive with one eye (something which “not Scot” -see IaDL75-and the hospital, failed to mention at all, including in the 20 min conversation about “returning to driving with one eye”) .

I can read the number plate at 20 meters (and a good bit more). However, I cannot see enough on the left with only my right eye (Field of vison test) – my peripheral vision is actually quite good but the “blind” spot (or blocked spot) is just in the wrong place. (Damn my prominant brow ridges and Neanderthal heritage!)

The result was so close they had to test me twice, but still, it’s a NO.

I confess, right up to that point, I really did not believe there would be long term consequences. Just one more in the litany of Lucky Dog life events that I eventually dust off and move forward from with no or little change.

I was surprised and disbelieving when everyone said I could drive, then I actually drove, and was agast. Turns out I was right, although I take no pleasure it in. When it seemed too good to be true, it should have been clear, it probably was.

It seems likely that Bus and Train timetables, and fares, and lack of service… will give plenty of scope for future musings. I also appear to have found my “Native American Name”;

“Walking One Eye’d Dog”

Next week on IaDL : Enough about the eye already!
