So the “new” car has now had new brakes, new spark plugs, new oil, new radiator hose, and a variety of lesser issues sorted (££££)- thank goodness it was fully serviced just before we bought it…
Still as my Dad was fond of saying, “if you own a car, you’re never done putting your hand in your pocket…” although it’s not like I’ve been driving much recently.
Am I going to get to drive some more in the future?
Well that’s the question I’d like a clear answer to. I waited for todays scheduled hospital check up, and they’re very happy that my squinty eye is healing about-as-well-as-can-be-expected. Everyone is delighted that my “magic specs” (I now have a few pairs) aleviate the double vision.
But do they aleviate the double vision enough?
That, it would appear, is always someone elses decision, some other sub-department, no-one can put their name to that piece of paper (officially).
So I am now caught between two stools;
I cannot drive with one eye, (failed field of vision). I am not even technically required to resit the field of vision test if I can use both eyes.
I cannot drive with both eyes (unassisted) because I have declared double vision.
But there is no test (I have been repeatedly told) for double vision, so no-one can confirm, or deny whether my glasses are “enough” – obviously I think they are, but it’s not clear to me that an insurance company would (or even should) accept that unsupported.
If it was straightforward and easy – it would be someone elses story….. (as I’m fond of saying) Suggestions on a post card *
Next week on IaDL; A proper mishap to dispell this gloom, probably something with paint, or cake, or paint and cake, or paint and cake and a high ladder….
* for younger viewers, a “postcard”, was like a mini letter written** on a blank square of card.
** Written – seriously? young people these days…..
