I’m not sure about the numbering? 104? I mean it’s really 115 or thereabouts. Maybe we’ll stop counting and just be; “It’s a Dog’s life…” (the elipsis is important… to me).
Anyway, Happy New Year to you all, I hope it’s a good one.
And so at this time of year, our thoughts traditionally turn to “resolutions” and we promise ourselves to be better, thinner, faster, more diligent people. Why we would promise to challenge ourselves in the bleak winter month of January, with it’s uninspiring grey, stay -inside weather, and battered finnances, has always been beyond me. I started the more challenging resolutions in October…
However I think we need to approach this differently. If tradition demands we turn over a new leaf with the new year, then choose the fun, soul nourishing things to change at this time. Contact that old friend, play some more music, cook a big pie/lasagne/curry, make plans, write a list (sometimes I do lists of lists!) . Being a “better” you doesn’t just have to be about calories and jogging.
Perhaps now more than ever, we need to help not just ourselves, but our nearest and dearest, by embracing, and indeed creating, reasons to celebrate, events to share.
The emphasis is usually on the last word, it should be on the first one;
HAPPY new year!
