(Petrol)
My dad was very fond of saying, “if you own a car ,you’re never done putting your hand in your pocket.” My last car, was eventually sold on (part exchange) due to a punctured petrol tank – punctured on the top, go figure! – which was, as they say, an uneconomic repair.
Therefore I was not pleased to notice a similar srongly pervasive smell of petrol after filling my new car. I finally got it to our mechanic for a check up;
“Yoou doon’t haave much luuck with petrool taanks, Toony…” was his broad Ayrshire verdic.
So I am now in need of a replacement petrol tank, for a slightly obscure and discontinued model of Kia. Ah well, this is what the internet is for, after all…
“Kia Vendetta petrol tank” – several answers, most of which, for some very obscure reason, lead to a plastic bottle for a Honda motorcycle. Oh and a large selection of petrol caps.
“Fuel tank for Kia Vengence” – this nets a lot more petrol caps, and the entire world selling me tanks on Ebay. Somewhat confusingly no two of the (many, many) ebay sellers appear to have a photo of the same item (Guaranteed original!!). I also have my mechanics advice ringing in my ears (“Doon’t buuy a secoond haand oone, Toony”), and a lot of the ebay offers have seen (much) better days.
There is -in fact – a Kia Vendiagram Owners web page; who bemoan the disconituation of this “popular” model, and the difficulty of securing parts, especially fuel tanks. Never fear a regular contributor (Kiafriend16) has discovered that a model of the Hyundai i20 has the same tank, a post which goes back 9 years, and which despite 9 years of assorted pleading, never actually reveals which of the (40 or so) i20’s is the one in question. – I am begining to think Kiafriend16 was silenced before he could reveal too much…
I search for “Hyundai i20 petrol tanks” – my, what a large selection of petrol caps… who knew that this car was so popular as a diesel? So, would a diesel tank do? are they otherwise the same? Would petrol disolve the joins in a diesel tank? This question nets a separate search: “we notice you’ve been looking at petrol caps, are any of these of interest?” , otherwise, all I can say for certain (answerposted by RedneckTenn) that the Kodiak Buckaroo cannot cross fit the tank from the diesel model.(discovered to his cost)
This distraction is not helpful, and the correct answer would appear to be, “it depends”.
Search “Spare tank for Kia Venemous”; I struggle with the continued appearance of the plastic Honda motorcycle bottle? (what is it even for on a bike?). My lap top slows as I now have a dozen windows of assorted petrol caps open.
“Kia Venusian replacement parts” ; Windows, Doors, Radiators, Bulbs, Transmission, Suspension, Electrics…. mostly located in the formed Czech republic (apparantly that’s where the factory was). Fuel tank is not on the list.
