It’s a Dog’s Life…

(gifts)

For anyone actually interested, a petrol tank is now(finally) enroute from darkest Slovakia. It may even be the correct one. We will see. You will probably read it here if not..

A reach out to Susan, who very kindly offered to orchestrate my birthday celebrations. Thank you, but NO. You will be my guest, and while I will not rule out the possibiliy of participation in singing or other musical performance, it is my privilege to entertain and amuse my guests, and not oblige them to labour for their supper .

I have been asked, subtly, and directly, is there a “gift” I might like for my birthday, and I find that I am uninspired for any physical answer. I am happy to have reached a point where, frankly, I already have most possessions, and it is the immaterial things that actually provide joy.

Touching on “things”, I was recently delighted by a tea towel on display (?) sharing “well known Scottish Phrases…” which included one I had previously not encountered!

” It’s nae loss, what a freend gets.”

It astonishes me, that I have not previously met this in my travels, although the sentiment is well familiar. I (and friends) have many tools, games, bits of musical equipmment, books, gazebos…, that I think of as held in common. Some are things bought only for the common weal, and who’s value is excatly that they can be so shared.

But I’d go a little further, for I don’t think it is just about the material. “…What a freend gets….” is also their success and triumph and achievement, and the joy we can feel for them, and the sharing of their happiness.

So that’s what I want for my celebration, to share my happiness.

It’s not available online, at any price.

Next week on IaDL ; What do you mean, this doesn’t fit?
