(Birthday toast)
I was going to write about affirmation and life – and I will – but for the moment I thought I’d share this for those who couldn’t be there:
“In youth,
I thought I had, but thirty years.
Old age,
Would be the least of all my fears.
I partied and caroused,
with you, my peers.
So certain of that time, I might have bet.
But, I’d have lost,
for you can see,
I ain’t dead yet.
My destiny,
Against me has conspired.
But,
From this life, I haven’t yet retired.
And somehow,
Just my warranty’s expired.
And so I stumble onwards, heedless of the threat.
Content to say,
I ain’t dead yet.
While fate,
To take me from this life has tried,
And I’ve been cut and burned, and bruised and bashed, (and shocked!) I’ve never died
And though,
I’m scarred and branded, and I’ve cried,
I bear it all without regret,
Because it tells the tale,
I ain’t dead yet.
Dear members,
Of this company select.
I wish to share,
One sentiment direct.
I know,
One day, the Reaper will collect;
But not tonight!
Tonight, our tables set.
So celebrate,
We ain’t dead yet!”
Next week on IaDL : Another birthday party!
