It’s a year of birthdays. Well of course it’s always a year of birthdays, but it’s a year of significant birthdays (ones with an 0). A function of still having (largely) a group of friends I went to university with, is we all advance to veteran status within a couple of years (depending on who started from fifth year, and who’s birthday fell on the “wrong” side of the school holidays).
I am also fortunate to have a wide array of (good) friends met in other circumstances and later life, for whom I am broadly “leading the charge” (the old guy) but not by very much.
Old is a relative term. An inssouciance (some would say, complete disregard) for the passing of solar orbits, is perhaps one of the common threads that unites the body of my friends from whichever origin. Life, as more than one philospher has observed, is for living, and as Glagae paralance would have it, “yer a long time deed”.
So, having afirmed life very thoroughly indeed with my own celebrations, I look forward to a long year of afirmation and celebration, we’re still here!
I am, as my song says, not dead yet!
