It’s a Dog’s Life….

( Weak week)

If this typing is a bit slow, it’s because I staved my thumb. Or sprained my thumb…or strained my thumb.

Gradually the years have taken from me some of my “bounce-back-abilty”, so that a tumble down a flight of stairs now hurts enough to require a lie down. Actually, these days, a stumble off the kerb can hurt enough to require a lie down. I have to concede – I no longer have the superpower of invulnerabilty. (sad face).

However, I remain quite big and (I think) relatively strong, such that if I wish things to move, or open, generally , that happens. It has been a rare event that I strove to shift something and it completely refused to play. (Ok , ok, but that generator was actually bolted to the floor!).

In my capacity as head builder in the garden (in charge of inanimate objects), I recently identified that a stone bench was a needful artefact for one corner. Purchasing one at a local garden centre, when it came to picking it up to put in on a trolly, it was quickly clear that gravity was not going to release it to my efforts. In fact, one of the young women garden staff had to come to my aid.

I am not – I should make it quite clear – the least put out, by the gender of the individual helping, merely by the fact it was clearly beyond me to do – alone. How the mighty are fallen! Worse yet, although first son was there to help in unloading, the subsequent – no move it that way a bit… the left leg needs to be further in… clearly resulted in one too many unassisted lifts. (I did drop it on one finger, but that was just sore).

So now, I’m down a second superpower AND reliving the bitter frustration of everyone who’s ever mildly injured their dominant hand, and trying (in vain) to remember to rest it, and use the other (wrong) one. Can’t comfortably write, can’t get the lid off the coffee, can’t play guitar, – how in gods name I am suppose to brush my teeth?

Next week on IaDL : Can’t even leap a tall building in a single bound…..
