(is it safe?)
Due to something of a family emergency, I was unable to attend 101 songs for 101 years of Dalmally. Going by the photos, the sun shone, the midgies were fierce, and the music was good.
Meanwhile, I am tasked with some preparation for my mother’s hoped-for, return from hospital. Some kind of assistance package, will necessitate access for carers.
I visit the housing office:
” (Polite greeting, brief identification) – we will need a key-safe outside the secure close door, in addition to code to the (unused) existing key-safe at her flat door, can you help?”
The young lady carefully writes everything down longhand – on paper – in cursive. I am assured I am in the right place, and that a work will be issued.
That was easy!
About 2 hours later I receive a call from the housing works people:
“Mr Wilson, just to let you know, we’ll have someone by tomorrow to remove our old key-safe….”
While the speed of response is heartening, I explain (slowly) that is not what I require.
“But the work order we have here says…”
I explain again that I want to keep the safe – could I have the code? – and add a new one.
“Very good sir, but we’d need a new work line to do that, so we’ll have to send this one back…”
They’ll let me know when that’s done.
————————————–
“Hello you left a message to contact you about the key-safe?”
hold
“So if I provide you with a (new) keysafe, you will fit it….ok? and the code for the old one?”
hold
“What old one? The one you had a work order to remove yesterday”
hold
“No, I don’t want it removed, just the code to open it – please “
hold
” How were you planning to remove it, if you don’t have the code? the fixings are all inside?”
hold
{With a pickaxe??} “It’s not your keysafe? The keys were in it when my mum moved in – I was present”
hold
“Can you reinstate the removal order and I’ll meet the workmen when they come to take it off?”
hold
“Apparently not…. well thank you for your time…”
Nothing is ever easy.
Next week on IaDL : What do you mean I’ve only got a week? It’s not till Augus….oh!
