I’ve not really been the most regular correspondant this past month; four consecutive weeks with or, entirely, nightshift have been…challenging. Not the shifts themselves per-se, but the change back and forth. I seem to get less good at that as time goes on.
Never-the-less, I find myself back at the night coal face one more time for Christmas.
Despite the anti social hours – or maybe because of them- I always consider that in this case, I am some minor emissary of Santa, getting people home to their famillies, rescuing lost travellers, and helping other “elves” get to their stations for the big day.
It is therefore necessary to create a large reserve of “good cheer” for me to dispense throughout tonight and tomorrow, maybe that’s why I do grumpy old the other 360 odd days?
Today, this day, I am the Ghost of Christmas Present, feasting and sharing and spreading Ho! ho! ho! during my short time here. It’s a mythically hard job , but, someone has to do it.
In a previous life(17-18?), I peformed as “Wizard Wilson” where my postion at Santa’s elbow was that of “Head of the magical toy division” – and yes the odd bit of magic (really more showmanship and distraction) was part of that role. I suspect that inner child still lives on, and if he can, he will point one way and throw and handful of glitter the other *, just to bring a cheer or a smile.
Whatever you’re doing, wherever you are, whoever you are with; I wish you and yours a Magical Christmas.
*”Quick look! Can you see him? “…….glitter rains down slowly on the children.
Next week on IaDL : …25?… you’ve got to be kidding me!
