It’s a Dog’s Life…

(walk the Dawg)

My war on my diabetes diagnosis continues. A relatively severe no/low carb diet, and avoidance of anything that looks like a cake, or a crisp is actually producing some results.

I acquired a GI monitor, so now have to daily stab myself for blood to measure. I’d have thought, given my propensity for shedding it over the years , this would be only a minor inconvenience, but in fact the anticipation of this “pinprick” actually gets worse rather than better. On the positive front, while a month ago I was returning readings of “you are already dead” (apparently not) I am now often returning “completely normal”, (clearly wrong) or at worst “borderline”, so progress is being made.

I need only continue with unabated normal levels for three months, and I will officially be “diabetes free”. I suspect however that that will not mean a return to unalloyed cake consumption.

Think not that this war is being waged only on one front. Combined with the low carbs, an excess of walking, moving and other strenuous activity. So…

It kind of dropped into my lap, I’ve signed up to; Support Diabetes UK with the “Million step challenge.”

Basically I have 3 months (July -Sept) to complete 1000000 steps and raise some money while doing it. There will be(is) a just giving page, and a weekly steps so far, and perhaps a weigh lost since the challenge began.

Astute readers will note this is about 11000 a day, hardly an insuperable figure, and one regularly passed by lovely wife in her “on my feet all day” job and pursuit of public transport. However, in my stare at the computer screen shift job with car commute, it will require that I actually make time, and of course it’s important to do so each day, every day, rain or shine.

Why would I worry? I’m walking through the height of summer…

Challenge starts July 1st so I’ll stick the giving page link up then.

next week on IaDL: Goodbye old friend
