So I attended the Richard familly annual 100 years and counting party at the Dalmally house. Close observers will note that I am not, in fact, a member, or even an in-law to the Richard clan, however apparantly I sneak in under, “well kent face” or possibly, outlaw…

This involved camping, BBQ food, playing guitar, and very little counting of carbs.

I was almost immediately then away in the company of friends to the exclusive residence of Rosslyn, and actually attending some fringe events in dear Auld-Reekie.

This involved staying in a castle, feasting wildly, not practising guitar, and very little counting of carbs.

I got back with an evening and a day in which to assemble my own “gig in the garden” out of tarps and string, plus a bit of cooking for 30, and hoping to find time to practise guitar.

This involved not spending much time in my own bed, trying to remember how to play “Em”, feasting wildly and BBQ food, and very little counting of carbs.

Today was my younger sons birthday and last exam (Of this lot)- no carbs were counted. (no guitar was played either!)

One thing that all these events had in common was – steps, lots and lots of steps! So I’m ecstatic that my GI number is down, pleased that my weight is down, delighted that the step count is through the roof -really just coasting now- and still asking for donations.

About one person in 20 has diabetes (in Scotland), one in 10 if you’re over 55 {right now that includes me, but if I can bring the average down a little more, and keep it there, technically it won’t anymore}. I suspect that most of you are over 55, (youngsters, think about Mum and Dad), so the worse news is a lot of people go undiagnosed, which just compounds the harm. In short it’s not just a good cause , it’s a cause that will certainly touch someone (else) you know.

What have I learned so far? – Steps are good!
