I left you hanging with, what seemed to be, an almost reasonable conclusion to FIVE solid hours of internet communication. The traveille did not end there: –

“no courtesy car, yes courtesy car, well not actually a courtesy car as such..”

“I’m sorry sir we shut in one minute, and I only have this beat up old manual van available” (nothing to complain about here really)

“So just to clarify, you’ve called me at work to confirm that, you don’t know if you can give me the ‘not a courtesy car’…”

“A settlement in…, you’ve no idea, because you have (still) to contact the third parties insurance…”

“So over the limit, failed the drugs wipe, and also driving under a ban you say officer, probably not insured then?”

“…Bear with me here; I’m not getting the courtesy car- ok its not called a courtesy car- but I’m not getting it, because no one can confirm the offending vehicle was at the location, which is on CCTV, Police dash cam, in photos – several of which I took myself, and it was collected (in several bits) from by a third party vehicle removal company. Have I got that right?”

“Look dear I have a letter from the court, I may have to appear to confirm my witness statement” “What did you say?” ” I was asleep, the accident woke me up…”

“Settlement in 3-5 weeks”

“Settlement in 3-7 days”

“Settlement in 72 hours” (would have been nice, but that deadline was 48 hours ago)

In the meantime, I broke all my piggybanks, since a local dealer had (more or less) the same car at a bargain price of only a bit more than I paid for the last one…we’re back on the road, although (as a dear friend put it) -it’s porrige and rags all round – at least untill the settlement, eh, settles.

It’s no wonder I drink really.

Next week on IaDL – No claims bonus, what no claims bonus?
