Yipee! and nine days to spare. Thank you all who have supported, jeered and cheered.
It’s been an interesting lesson in motivation. Plenty of long work days where I certainly wouldn’t have made the effort if there hadn’t been a target. Not to mention the sore back and my recurring knee issues, which I would have had little to no inclination to push through.
It’s not a wildly impressive feat (feet?). I have a strong suspicion my wife may have walked two million steps during the same period, wihout actually trying, just beacuse she is on her feet that much more. It has certainly made me more aware of the need to conciously combat the amount of sedentary time spent at work/ on a keyboard/ gaming.
It has been realtively pleasing to note that, even wih the shifts, that amount of movement can be fitted in, but if I’m honest it’s not “free”. On a day off, 11000 steps is nothing, working 10 hours with 2 hours commute, it can be done, but it subtracts directly from other lesiure activities. CHoices must be made.
I did have vague hopes thath the concentrated effort might help my own GI numbers, and while the average figures are ok and perhaps slightly improved, they are still very swingy when viewed in detail. Shifts and shift eating (breakfasts) don’t really mix well with Diabetes, or at least not with taking regular GI readings to get an accurate picture.
Equally one might have hoped- though it was not the purposes of the “exercise” – that walking “500” miles might have made some impact on my waistline. Of course, as my positive minded son observes, perhaps I’ve traded my fat for muscle….hmmm.
Perhaps I will need to walk “500 more” ? but not today.
