It’s a Dog’s Life…

(Garden Party).

I may have briefly mentioned that the garden here at “Glen Rosa” (Kilmarnock residence, yes, it actually has a name) is quite large. In fact, probably larger than two people with jobs and increasing creaky knees, should have to look after. However, from day one I have eyed this space and considered it’s potential as an outdoor venue, but there has been a great deal to dig, plant, build and prepare before that day could come.

I am delighted to report that this weekend all efforts finally came to fruition: with stage, live music, open air kitchen BBQ, fire pit, dancing, food and drink.

While our precipitation shelters were tested (actual tarps saved from Dalmally), the weather gods were mostly benign and there was even a suggestion of sunshine, (I have no wish to risk angering them by making some pointed remark about the gorgeous – sun splitting the trees – day which followed, where we would doubtless have needed the shade).

I could, perhaps, attempt a list of highlights, but purely personally, I could have asked nothing more of the day. Even a thank you list would be just as long as the guest list, although I must give a very special thanks my long suffering Chris, who not only allows my wild ideas (“lets invite a horde of musicians into our home and garden…”) but then makes them cake(s) as well (not to mention the cleaning).

As host, organiser, builder and also appearing on stage, I have almost no photos to share, I spent most of the day oblivious to where my phone was (…you left it on top your amplifier- fool!). But I did get one shot from the early morning, during my solitary preparation, the first “guest” on stage:

I took it as a sign, and storm “Anthony” (can you believe it!) did pass us by. At Dalmallyfest we had the enduring image of the cactus, but I think, if I am fortunate enough to take this event forward, the gods have given us our new symbol.

If YOU have any photo’s please share them here or FB.

Next week on IaDL: 18! How can my YOUNGER son be 18?
