It’s a Dog’s Life…

(warranty)

Sometimes it;s pressure of work (mostly shifts) that keeps me away, this time it was pressure of life.

I could talk about organising a festival in my garden, and the astonishing performance by the weather gods (sounds like a 70’s prog rock group).

I could talk about the delights of arriving at A&E at midnight on a Saturday, to find 60 ( SIXTY!) people waiting – spoiler – everyone lived, the main casualty was sleep and sanity.

I’m going to talk about pain. Back pain mostly, but some knee pain too.

“Oh I’ve forgotten item x on the shopping list” so I turn around to retrace my steps, except that my left knee decides it does not want to play this game… I’m pretty sure something tore- there were some involuntary “Aia! Aia!” sounds.

Fortunately, with my extisting femo-patello disorder (see Dog’s life 2 or similar) , I have a selection of support bandages and an assortment of sticks for all occasions.

I’m not normally one to burden the GP with trivial issues,, but my annual (personal) MOT was due anyway so, hobbling in I thought I would ask…

“So do I rest this(knee) completely? or exercise gently?”

The 19(??) year old practise nurse did not know, but came back after fifteen minutes with the definitive answer; “Both”

Hmmmm.

Unfortunately while somewhat recovered from Knee injury, my spine – likely shocked by recent over-abudant lifting and shifting, has come out in sympathy. This I also recognise as an old war wound reoccurred, and am now strongly suspecting something in the nature of a slipped disc (it has a fancy new name these days). Made worse by protracted sitting, and for which no real treatment is available.

“Get up and move regularly” which unfortunately is the advice me knee does not want to hear. There’s quite a lot more involuntary “Aia! Aia!” involved.

I’d practise some guitar, but my natural inclination to attempt to move with the music, does me no favours (“Aia! Aia!”).

I’m almost certain I’ll live, probably recovering just in time to return to work.

Meantime I wait to see what other bits of my warranty have expired!

Next Time on IaDL, some photos?
